Calathea

Calatheas are the show-offs of the plant world, with beautifully patterned leaves in shades of green, silver, pink and purple, often with a surprise of colour underneath. Each plant has its own personality, so leaf patterns, colours and shapes can vary, and your plant may look a little different from the one pictured. They enjoy bright, indirect light, warmth and consistently moist soil, while dry air and harsh afternoon sun are best avoided. Some varieties even lift and lower their leaves throughout the day, earning them the nickname prayer plants. The good news for pet owners is that Calatheas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. A little particular? Perhaps. But with foliage this good, we think they’re worth the extra attention.
