Good drainage is essential, as consistently wet soil can lead to root rot. This is a slow-growing statement plant that can eventually become very large, so allow room for its future growth.

Take particular care when handling this plant. Its milky sap can cause serious irritation, especially if it gets into the eyes. Avoid cutting or breaking the stems, and wear protective gloves if handling is necessary.
